Litter Survey 2026

The 2026 Letterkenny Tidy Towns Litter Survey shows positive progress compared to previous surveys, with 61% of respondents saying litter levels in the town are improving. However, takeaway packaging remains the most common form of litter identified, noted by almost 60% of respondents, followed by food wrappers and cigarette butts. While this shows that overall awareness and clean-up efforts are making a difference, it also highlights the need for more targeted action around disposable packaging. In response, Letterkenny Tidy Towns plans to work with local businesses on a public awareness campaign focused on takeaway waste and responsible disposal, while also making it a theme for next year’s schools poster competition to help build awareness among younger people and the wider community.
