Green Guide Letterkenny

The Green Guide for Letterkenny is a practical sustainability resource designed to help local residents make environmentally friendly choices in their everyday lives. Developed by Letterkenny Tidy Towns as part of its commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable community, the Guide provides clear, easy-to-follow information on topics including green travel, public transport, waste reduction, food waste, recycling, water conservation, energy efficiency, biodiversity, light pollution, citizen science projects and reducing personal carbon footprints. It also promotes the circular economy by encouraging people to reuse, repair and support local second-hand and charity shops.

Designed specifically for the Letterkenny community, the Guide aims to show how small changes can make a big difference for both the environment and household budgets. Available online and in print, it serves as a valuable resource for residents who want to live more sustainably while supporting local environmental initiatives. The information contained within the Guide will also form the basis of future awareness campaigns and educational resources, helping to keep sustainability at the heart of community life in Letterkenny.

Sustainability Week 2025

We were proud to bring the second year of Letterkenny Tidy Towns Sustainability Week, which ran from 13th–19th October 2025 as part of our Power of One initiative.

This year, we shone a light on something that affects us all – food waste. Throughout the week, we encouraged individuals, businesses and organisations across our community to share the steps they had taken to reduce waste in their homes, workplaces and daily lives.

From better meal planning and composting to donating surplus food and finding creative ways to use leftovers, every action made a difference. We loved hearing the practical and innovative ways people helped to cut food waste and support a more sustainable Letterkenny.

Together, we showed how small changes can have a big impact, and how the power of one action can inspire many more.

Sustainability Week

In October 2024, we hosted our first ever Sustainability Week, running from the 21st to the 27th. As part of our “Power of One” initiative, we invited local businesses, schools, and community groups to showcase everyday actions that support a greener, more sustainable Donegal. From energy-saving tips to waste reduction and biodiversity efforts, the week highlighted how small changes can make a big difference. It was a proud moment for the town, bringing people together to celebrate our shared commitment to a healthier future.
